Project Challenge
Wind Energy Ireland approached us with two big challenges. The first was their main website, greentechskillnet.com. It was running on an outdated learning management system that was difficult to navigate, limited in flexibility, and a constant headache for administrators. Learners often struggled with clunky pathways, while the team behind the scenes had no easy way to manage courses or extract useful data. The biggest obstacle was that the old LMS didn’t allow any course or user data to be exported. To make a migration possible, the client had to manually export everything into spreadsheets, a painstaking process that left a lot of room for error.
At the same time, Wind Energy Ireland was preparing to launch a completely new initiative: the Offshore Wind Academy. This would be a dedicated site at skillnetoffshorewindacademy.ie with its own identity, course catalogue, and administration needs. The challenge here was to build a site that felt consistent with the Greentech brand, while also giving the Offshore Wind Academy enough independence to stand on its own and manage its learners separately.
The Solution
We started by reimagining greentechskillnet.com. The site was migrated onto WordPress and rebuilt using Learndash as the LMS. This gave us a flexible and modern platform that could scale as their training programmes grew. Visually, we overhauled the design to bring it in line with Skillnet’s brand guidelines. The new site feels cleaner, easier to navigate, and more engaging for learners. On the admin side, everything was simplified. Instead of wrangling clunky workflows and spreadsheets, the team can now manage courses and learners directly within WordPress. Most importantly, we carefully reconstructed all user and course data from the manually exported spreadsheets, ensuring nothing was lost in the migration.
With that foundation in place, we moved on to the Offshore Wind Academy. For this site, we used the Greentech build as a starting point but modified it to suit the Academy’s unique needs. The design carries the same Skillnet DNA, but with enough variation to give Offshore its own identity. The site was configured with tailored admin workflows so that its team could run their courses independently without relying on Greentech’s backend. In effect, it’s a twin system, familiar in structure but distinct in purpose, giving Offshore Wind Academy a strong launchpad from day one.
The Solution
The impact of these two projects has been significant. Greentech Skillnet now operates on a modern, scalable platform that makes life easier for learners and administrators alike. All legacy data was successfully migrated, meaning no disruption to ongoing training and no information lost along the way. The visual redesign has improved the user journey, bringing the website in line with Skillnet’s wider brand identity and creating a professional first impression for learners.
For Offshore Wind Academy, the launch of a dedicated site has allowed them to hit the ground running. They now have a platform that’s purpose-built for their programmes, managed independently, but still recognisable as part of the Skillnet family. Both sites benefit from a consistent design system and LMS approach, which reduces complexity while giving each initiative the flexibility it needs to grow.
Together, these projects have given Wind Energy Ireland’s Greentech Skillnet and Offshore Wind Academy the tools to deliver training more effectively, manage their learners with confidence, and continue building momentum in two fast-moving sectors.
