A Digital Platform Built to Perform:
Strategy, Design & Automation for ICT Skillnet

Project Challenge

Objective

ICT Skillnet plays a critical role in delivering industry-led training across Ireland. But outdated systems were costing them time, energy, and opportunity.

Their main site — and a growing collection of programme-specific websites — needed a ground-up rebuild to improve usability, accessibility, and performance. But that was only half the problem.

Behind the scenes, course managers were spending up to a full day every week on repetitive admin tasks: manually copying enquiry data into spreadsheets, renaming files, sorting folders, and chasing missing attachments.

What they needed wasn’t just a better website — they needed a smarter system.

The Solution

We took a two-pronged approach to help ICT Skillnet operate more effectively — both on the front-end for users, and behind the scenes for their team.

We redesigned and rebuilt ictskillnet.ie, the central hub of the organisation’s training ecosystem. The new site features improved UX, responsive design, structured content, and full WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility — creating a platform that performs for learners, employers, and internal stakeholders alike.

While we didn’t rebuild the wider network of programme websites, we continue to host, support, and optimise them — ensuring high performance, stability, and consistency across the board.

Behind the scenes, we engineered a powerful automation system that eliminated repetitive admin tasks and transformed internal workflows. The result? Every course manager now saves a full day of work, every single week.

This bespoke system connects enquiry and application forms from across the ICT Skillnet sites directly into Google Sheets and Google Drive — organising data and files instantly and accurately, with zero manual handling.

The automation includes features such as form submissions feeding into shared spreadsheets, colour-coded by form type; automatic generation of new spreadsheets for each new course; attachments saved in structured Drive folders named by course and applicant; file names preserved and folders created automatically; files removed from the site after one month for efficiency and compliance; spreadsheet filenames syncing with course title or code updates; and the ability for managers to manually trigger new spreadsheet creation when needed.

This isn’t just automation. It’s a full day of time given back to every course manager, every week.

The Results

The project delivered major results across both user experience and internal operations. Each course manager now saves a full day of work every week, significantly improving internal efficiency and staff satisfaction. Manual data handling and duplication have been eliminated, allowing the team to focus on higher-value work.

The new website offers a seamless user experience with improved course discovery, supported by a WCAG 2.1 AA-compliant design that ensures accessibility for all users. Performance optimisation efforts resulted in a Google PageSpeed score of over 90, delivering faster load times and better engagement across devices.

By hosting the platform on Kinsta’s carbon-neutral Google Cloud infrastructure, ICT Skillnet also aligned their digital operations with their broader sustainability goals. Finally, the project introduced a streamlined structure to support the future development of new programme sites, ensuring scalability and long-term digital resilience.
